Artist's Comments

…For some reason, I'm drawing them every year. Hey, this time, ITunes told me to do it. For once it played Summoning. Hehe~~~
Should I have used even darker shadows?

Anyway…
I swear it's not my fault that I'm uploading so few pictures. It's because of school. Bleh.

note: DeviantART doesn't allow me to spell Lúthien correctly in the title. Okay, who cares.

This is another really impressive picture Franzi! Really excellent work! The story of Beren and Lúthien has always been one of my favourites from the Silmarillion so it great to see them captured in this kind of tender and loving way. The detail that you have put into the clothes and shading is wonderful and their hair, faces and hands look great as well. Everything is scaled and proportioned just right, and that lovely sketchy quality to the whole thing really works well. I think this is some of your best work to date actually! :) I really like it! Keep up the great work! :+fav:

I love sketches. Most times, I like them even more than my paintings. I even was worried if I didn't already shade them two too much… But on the other hand, I think some parts could be even darker.
But sketches also catch the wanna-be-mythological and mystical atmosphere of Tolkien's works much better than too clear lines, I think.

Uh, however. Thank you *hugs*.

You are most welcome. :)

And I agree; sketches do have a quality that really suits the whole fantasy/mythology style. I always find it fascinating looking at sketches actually. I love seeing the techniques that the artist use before the paint goes on. I always think it give the onlooker a big insight into the artist mind and I certainly appreciate them just as much, if not more than a fully coloured piece.

Oh yes! I even like helping lines in a picture, although I'm removing them most times before showing my sketches to anyone.
:iconalcamin:
Yeah, I like those too. Very useful things. SKETCHES FTW! ^^
